The design and introduction of the Billy Pugh Stretcher Rescue Net is in response to the growing need for a versatile, compact, helicopter rescue device. The Stretcher Rescue Net is compatible with reduced door sizes of current helicopter configurations. When folded for storage, this net takes minimal space.
The stretcher net greatly increases the capability of the helicopter rescue units to safely and effectively extract and transport survivors. Current stretcher configurations that can be utilized for helicopter operations are only capable of transporting victims in a reclined or horizontal position. At the same time, standard rescue baskets, harnesses and nets cannot transport injured in the horizontal position.
The Stretcher Rescue Net is capable of transporting victims in the seated position, as a standard rescue basket. What makes this net outstanding is its ability to transport victims in a reclined or horizontal position as a stretcher rescue net. These victims may already be secured to some type of standard ground type device, such as pack boards, pole litters and Stokes type stretchers.
Construction
The construction of the net incorporates the same tried and proven manufacturing techniques that have been used to fabricate Billy Pugh Rescue™, Building, and Platform Transfer Nets for the past thirty years. The frame work is constructed of tubular stainless steel. The mesh bottom is woven nylon and is the same material used in platform safety nets. Each strand of the mesh has a rating of 500 pounds. The load bearing and supporting lines are constructed of 5/16" U.V. resistant twisted polypropylene rope rated at 2,200 pounds per line.
Capacity
In the chair mode, the stretcher net functions like the typical rescue net. Configured as a rescue net for seated passengers, the net is designed to carry one person.
In the stretcher mode, the stretcher rescue net may be used in conjunction with or without other types of litter devices. It is designed to transport one reclined person. In this configuration, the stretcher rescue net can transport patients and/or litter devices up to 82 inches in length and 23 inches wide.
The net is rated to transport or suspend a person in the stretcher or the seated position, including clothing and accessories, up to a maximum weight of 500 pounds.
Suspension
Billy Pugh™ nets attach easily to all model hoists or cargo hooks (for short haul procedure). If the helicopter is not hoist or cargo hook equipped, the nets can be suspended by an optional Yoke Band through the body of some helicopters.
Manufactured by Billy Pugh Co. and sold exclusively by Life Support International, Inc.
