The SC-25 Marine Location Marker, is a form, fit, and functional replacement for the standard MK25 Mod 3, NSN 1370-00-690-1458. The SC-25 is designed for use in air and sea rescue operations as a target marker or as a surface wind indicator. This unit has a safe and arm mechanism that must be armed before launch.
After launch, the battery cavity hold is exposed by removal of two safety plugs. Seawater enters the cavity and serves as an electrolyte to activate the battery. The battery current initiates an electric squib, which in turn ignites the pyrotechnic composition. A scuttling charge sinks the container after the signal is completed (standard unit only).
